What is CAMP IN?

Camp In is a program for older volunteers with the format of a summer camp in rural areas of Portugal.

In partnership with several Municipal Councils, Foundations and Companies, we rebuilt several houses, scattered from north to south of Portugal, during the months of July, August and September.

There are 15 intense days of construction work in the homes of needy families, mobilization and interaction with the local community, all always with the lively and relaxed spirit of Just a Change.

Seats are filled in order of registration so don’t waste time!

POWERED BY CES

Camp In programs encourage young people to act in the face of the devastating social problem that is Housing Poverty. Camp In Tondela was no exception in its desire to expand the Mission of Rehabilitating Homes and Rebuilding Lives!

Activities within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps (CES) were framed in a Camp taking place in Tondela and which included group dynamics to develop soft skills.

Volunteers participating in CES, like all Just a Change volunteers, were challenged to put into practice our values of respect for others and our Vision of bringing “Joy, Hope and Charity to all Homes”. essential part of CES, we would not have had the incredible impact that we have.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do registrations open for Camp In?

Registration for Camp In 2023 does not yet have an opening date.

What it takes to be a volunteer?

To become a Just a Change volunteer, you just need to be 18 years old or older, available and willing to help! The rest is up to us 🙂

Are there any age restrictions for volunteering?

Yes. To be a volunteer you must be 18 or over. There is no maximum age! Although most of our volunteers are university students (18 – 26 years old), anyone of legal age is welcome!

I've never worked on construction sites and I don't know anything about construction. Can I still participate?

Yes! Our volunteers are constantly accompanied and supervised by a coordinating volunteer and a construction technician, who are there to teach you everything you need!

I was on the waiting list. And now?

(Un)Fortunately, we have more applications than vacancies. Vacancies are occupied in order of registration and therefore it is natural that there are people on the waiting list. But don’t get discouraged yet! There’s always the chance someone drops out and you can join. Unfortunately, this can happen even in the days before the camps and we have no way of giving you further notice.

How much does a camp cost and what does it include?

A camp costs between €40 and €60 and includes insurance, a Just a Change t-shirt, food (breakfast, morning snack, lunch, snack, dinner) and accommodation for the 15 days and transport from the accommodation to the work and vice versa during working days.

This amount DOES NOT include transport to the field site or extra food.

Can I do just a few days of the camp?

No. There are a lot of people wanting to make the Just a Change camps. By occupying a vacancy, you are taking the place of someone else who could perhaps spend every day in the field and that would not be fair.

I live in the locality where the field takes place. Can I sleep at home?

No. Just a Change camps are an intensive experience of working and interacting with other people. The camp spirit gains a lot with everyone’s presence. So we think it makes sense to spend every day together!

I have dietary restrictions. Can I do the camp?

Yes! In the registration form you can explain your situation and the management team will guarantee special food for you!
