WHAT IS TURN UP?

O Turn Up is a volunteering program in Lisbon, Porto and Guimarães with a duration of 4 hours daily, once a week, during 1 month.

Each volunteer chooses a shift (for example, tuesday morning) and commits to participate in this shift during one month. The shifts are from Monday to Thursday, from 9AM to 1PM or from 2PM to 6PM.The teams are made up of 5 volunteers, one coordinator and a construction technitian, who guides and carries out the work.

Despite being demanding volunteering, there is a very good environment at work, very relaxed and lively!
If you want to come with us to change lives, here’s what you need to know:

1. During 1 month, you commit to come once a week and spend 4 hours in the construction site.
2. We work as a team from 9AM to 1PM or from 2PM to 6PM.
3. Each team has a responsible coordinator.
4. A professional technician is always present at the work place who guides the work and teaches you everything you need to know.
5. The registration has a cost of 5€(includes t-shirt, insurance, tools and protection equipment).
6. You have to bring to the construction site steel toe boots, clothes to get dirty and, very important, service spirit. In case you don’t have steel toe boots, we can lend you a pair, subject to availability (the boots are used and the has to be arranged in advance)

How do the Trun Up registrations work?

Click on the city in which you want to register, and fill out the form with your information. After that, you can choose the shift (or shifts) in which you want to participate.

What does it take to be a volunteer?

To become a Just a Change volunteer, you just need to be 18 years old or older, available and willing to help! The rest is up to us 🙂

Are there any age restrictions for volunteering?

Yes. To become a Just a Change volunteer, you must be of legal age.

I've never worked on construction sites and I don't know anything about construction. Can I still participate?

Yes! Our volunteers are constantly accompanied and supervised by a coordinating volunteer and a construction technician, who are there to teach you everything you need!

I don't have steel toe boots.

If you don’t have steel toe boots, we can lend you a pair, subject to availability. It is important that you know the boots aren’t new, they are used and may not be exactly your size. You must arrange the loan in advance. In case you don’t want to wear used boots, you must bring your own.

I am on the waiting list. And now?

(Un)Fortunately, we have more applications than vacancies. Vacancies are occupied in order of registration and therefore it is natural that there are people on the waiting list. But don’t get discouraged yet! There’s always the chance someone drops out and you can join. Unfortunately, this can happen even in the days before the start of the volunteering activity and we have no way of notifying you in advance.

How much does Turn Up cost and what does it include?

Turn Up has a cost of 5€, which includes insurance and a Just a Change t-shirt.

This value DOES NOT include transportation to the volunteering location or food.

I am available to work 2 shifts. Can I?

Of course! You can register for more than one shift per week 🙂

Does Turn Up include accommodation?

No, in this program volunteers work for 4 hours and return to their homes at the end of the shift.
